Junior Year Projects

Fido Motors Cafe | Spring 2019
Team Project

This project was built around an existing coffee house in Kalamazoo MI. The project required communication with the owner of Fido Motor and active field measurements. We used the information given to us by the client to develop an environment that reflected the owner's wishes and maintained a budget. Through the development of this project, we learned how to work together as a team and how to understand what a client was looking for and how to meet their needs.

Co-Working | Spring 2019

This project required the creation of a pet-friendly co-working environment. At the beginning phase, three concepts were created to determine the best fit for the environment. The final project was then presented in poster form to a board of professionals along with the construction documents and selected finishes. Throughout this project the knowledge of function and problem solving was improved upon, gaining a better understanding of the workings within an office environment.

Sketchup Kiosk  | Spring 2019

The kiosk project required a kiosk that provided a single service designed and built within SketchUp. The kiosk provided was one that sold fresh fruit to those on the beaches of California. It was designed to keep the kiosk cool from the sun as well as the customers. It was also built to easily close down for the night, locking away any items of value. This project taught the use of SketchUp and the creation of a small project that had to be built within very specific constraints.
Expanding Potential | Fall 2018
Team Project

This project was the creation of an autism learning facility. As a team, we developed a concept, three layout options, a floor plan, and two posters that explain the development of the overall project. We started with developing a concept based on butterflies which are seen as an expression of autism. This brought about the color scheme which developed into very vibrant colors drawn from the vibrant colors of a butterfly. The layout stemmed from the butterfly concept, with the spaces extending off a central pathway. Through this project, we learned how to base our work on our research bringing everything back to the need of the occupants.
